Frequently Asked Questions

How do I book an appointment for my child?

First steps for initiating services is to fill out an intake form. Usually we email this form to you. Once we receive the form completed, our clinical directors will assign your child an appropriate clinician and you will be placed on their waitlist.  Once that clinician has availability, we will contact you to set up appointments.

How long is your waitlist?

Our waitlist depends on the type of services and your availability.

For therapy, our waitlist is generally 8-10 weeks, however if we are experiencing a high volume of calls, it may be as long as 4 months.  If you are available to come in during the day, the waitlist may be shorter.  We have limited evening availability, so if you require an appointment after 3pm, the wait may be longer than the average.

For assessments, our waitlist is approximately 4-6 weeks.  Waitlist time for assessments longer between October and January.  If you require a December/January split for insurance, please give as much notice as possible.

What is your cost?

Fees for therapy services range between $200-$250 per hour.  This is determined by the clinician that you are paired with.

Fees for assessments range between $2700-$3500.  This is determined during the intake appointment and depends on how comprehensive the assessment is.

Fees are in accordance with the CPA and may vary between clinicians within our centre.

Is my 18-year-old child too old for your centre?

In general, our clinicians can see children up until the age of 22, however this may be dependent on the presenting concerns. For further information, please fill out an intake form, and the clinical directors can provide feedback.

Do you see adults too?

We currently have 2 clinicians that are able to work with adults, however their ability to work with an adult is dependent on the what the concerns are. For further information, please fill out an intake form, and the clinical directors can provide feedback.

Do you work evenings and weekends?

Our office is open Monday to Friday.  We have some availability in the evening, however these are in high demand, so it may make the wait longer. Assessments are only done between the hours of 9am-3pm.

Do I need a referral?

We do not require a referral to initiate services. We do suggest checking with your insurance company to see if they require one in order to cover you. If they do, we suggest getting a referral in parents names as well as your child. This can be provided by your family doctor.

Can I request a specific clinician?

If you have been referred to a specific clinician, or feel that a particular clinician would be a good fit with your child, please indicate this on the intake form and we will do our best to accommodate.

Do both parents need to attend?

We have a policy at The CAP Centre that both parents attend at least the first session for both assessment and therapy.  This is the case for all families and usually still applies if there is sole custody to one parent.  If both parents are not at the first appointment, we will have to reschedule the appointment for a time when both are available.

If you have questions about your specific situation, feel free to call the office and speak to someone directly.

What services do you offer?

The CAP Centre offers both psycho-educational assessments and therapy services.

Psycho-educational Assessments are geared towards understanding a child’s learning profile and identifying strengths and weaknesses.  This services will help identify any Learning Disabilities, ADHD or any developmental concerns such as Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Therapy services are continual services geared towards helping an individual learn coping strategies to deal with anxiety, depression, social skills, anger management, and general life situations. If you have a specific question about the type of therapy your child will be undergoing, please visit our clinicians biography, or fill out an intake form.  Please note that we do not require an assessment to begin therapy.

Are you covered under insurance plans?

Often times, health insurance companies cover at least part of the fees for service.  We do not deal with your insurance directly; you pay upfront and we will supply you with an invoice to use for reimbursement.  We advise that you look into your insurance before hand, as once we provide an invoice we are unable to change it.  We suggest looking to see what your maximum per person is per year, as well as if there is a maximum per session.
